Derrik Metz, a name synonymous with football excellence, is a distinguished alumnus of Lock Haven University. Graduating in 2003, Metz’s journey in football began at Lock Haven where he played as an Inside Linebacker, a position that would see him leave an indelible mark in the annals of the university’s football history.

Metz’s athletic accolades are a testament to his outstanding athleticism and attitude. In 2002, he was recognized as an All-American and All-Region player, and was selected for the 1st team PSAC. Despite playing his senior year with a ruptured bicep tendon, Metz’s performance earned him a spot on the 2nd team PSAC in 2003. His defensive skills were unparalleled, earning him the title of Defense MVP in 2002 and 2003. He was also twice named the PSAC defensive player of the week.

His contributions to the team were not just limited to his personal achievements. Metz ranks 5th in all-time tackles, 3rd in all-time solo tackles, 9th in all-time assisted tackles, and 2nd in all-time tackles for loss with 33.0. These statistics underscore the significant impact Metz had on the field.

Off the field, Metz demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities. He served as the team captain in 2002 and 2003, guiding his team both on and off the field. His commitment to the community was evident in his efforts to tutor at-risk youths, highlighting his dedication to service beyond the football field.
