David Hogue was raised in western Pennsylvania, a geographic region that has been rich with football talent since the sport began. At 6’-6”, 270 pounds, David was an exceptional football player at Laurel High School in New Castle, PA. He achieved all-conference two straight years and garnered All-State honors his senior year. David was a two-sport athlete in high school, also participating in track & field in the shotput, discus and javelin events.

Mr. George Miles, David’s high school football coach, said the following, “At Laurel High School David is considered the best lineman of all time. We are a smaller school where there are generally few scholarship athletes, but David was a division 1 athlete. He was a very dominant lineman with a good physique, and he carried his weight well for a big guy. David was very athletic, which you don’t often find in athletes his size.”

David came to Lock Haven as a transfer student from Clemson University in the fall of 1992. While at LHU, he was named to the PSAC All-Conference team three straight years. He achieved second-team status his first year at Lock Haven (his sophomore year), followed by two straight years being named first-team PSAC All-Conference. David put a pair of impressive bookends on his senior year, starting with being named USA Today Preseason All-American, then finishing with a bid to play in the 1994 East-West Shrine All-Star Football Game. David’s outstanding leadership was honored with the Edward L. McGill Memorial Leadership Award in 1993. He was also named team captain by his peers during his senior year at LHU.

After college David returned to his high school alma mater, Laurel High School, where he gave back to the community and the sport that he loved by coaching junior high football. He later moved on to coach varsity football at Shenango High School, also in western PA.
