Chris Klinger
Nominated by Dave Hess
Chris started his outstanding athletic career at Mahanoy Joint School District, as a 3-sport athlete. He excelled in Football, Basketball and Baseball. He went on to Lock Haven University in the fall of 1962, where he played football for the legendary Coach Hub Jack. After a year of freshman football during the ’62 season, Chris found himself backing up two legendary LHU running backs during his sophomore campaign. When both were lost to season ending injuries in week 2, Chris went on to start 22 straight games for the LHU Bald Eagles, re-writing the record books as the games passed. Back in the days when LHU played only 8 games a year, Chris amassed 2090 yards rushing and 26 touchdowns.
He led the entire PSAC in scoring during the 1965 season with 12 touchdowns and was named to the very prestigious Associated Press All-Pennsylvania Football Team, which is comprised of football players from all of the colleges in the state of Pennsylvania, regardless of division or size of schools. Chris was also named 1st team All-PSAC Running Back in 1963, 1964 and 1965, one of very few LHU Football Players to achieve this level of success. Chris was exceptionally popular among his teammates and was named a captain of the 1965 football squad.
On top of being an outstanding football player, Chris also excelled in baseball at LHU. He was the starting third baseman four straight years for the Bald Eagles.
Chris is also a dedicated family man who currently lives in Picture Rocks, PA, with his wife Sandra. He and Sandra have two lovely daughters, Dana & Erin.
