Scott Reiner ‘81
It is with great pride and admiration that we celebrate the induction of Scott Reiner into the Lock Haven University Gridiron Greats. Scott’s journey to this honor began at Abington Heights High School, where he was a three-sport varsity letterman in football, baseball, and diving. His athletic prowess and dedication set the stage for his remarkable career at Lock Haven State College.
Scott became a starter for the Bald Eagles in 1978, 1979, and 1980, playing a pivotal role in the team’s success. He was a vital member of the 1979 Western Conference Championship and Pennsylvania Conference Championship team, leading his teammates to a memorable victory over Cheney for the PSAC championship. Scott’s leadership qualities were evident as he was elected team captain in 1979, guiding the team not only as a player but as an inspirational leader.
In 1980, Scott’s exceptional performance earned him first-team All-Conference and first-team Eastern Coast Athletic Conference honors. His name remains etched in the LHU record books, ranking sixth all-time in interceptions. Scott’s contributions on the field were matched by his dedication to his studies, as he graduated from Lock Haven State College with a bachelor’s degree in health, education, and recreation.
After his collegiate career, Scott continued to excel in football, playing for the semi-pro Scranton Eagles from 1983 to 1987. His outstanding defensive skills earned him the title of Defensive Most Valuable Player in 1984, and he was a key member of the Scranton Eagles’ national championship team that same year. Scott’s achievements did not go unnoticed, as he received honorable mention for the West Branch Hall of Fame.
Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Scott has been a dedicated leader in his community. He has volunteered as a youth basketball coach for five years and a youth soccer coach for three years, positively impacting the lives of many young athletes. Scott also coached ACDC from 1983 to 1992 and Old Forge High School from 1992 to 1994, demonstrating his commitment to nurturing and developing future generations of athletes.
Scott Reiner’s legacy as a player, leader, and community member is truly remarkable. His induction into the Lock Haven University Gridiron Greats is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and outstanding contributions to the LHU football program. We extend our most sincere congratulations to Scott on this well-deserved honor. His legacy will forever be remembered and celebrated, inspiring future generations of student-athletes at Lock Haven University.
